Born and raised in Shimoda. When I was a child, I went to the sea or the swimming pool everyday in summer vacation, and people said "Why don't you participate in a suntan competition?" There are a lot of pleasant memories blessed with nature in Shimoda, like cycling along the coast, picking up mulberries and collecting red and pink shells by the sea.

You can decorate a photo frame, and a magnet( or a barretta) with sea grasses and shells in commemoration of beautiful ocean of Shimoda and take them home. Everyone is absorbed in making it.

My recommendations

Superb view spots of Shimoda recommended by local guides
The landscape of Shimoda seen from Shimoda Park.
The river street with the history of port of refuge, once crowded with people working for Shimoda Dock. Mt Shimoda Fuji, Mt. Nesugatayama and Mt.Buzan rise like symbols of Shimoda without change. A cluster of houses in the valley. You can look out the Pacific Ocean stretching as far as Izu Seven Islands, with ships leaving and coming back.
The most favorite spot in the ocean of Shimoda and what makes the spot so special
The whole sea of Shimoda. White sand beach and blue water. As each has its own feature, you can choose the best from 9 different beaches, with the mood and condition of the day.
Don’t miss them! Top three gifts of Shimoda
My recommendation;
3rd place : Isonori(seaweed paste). Keeping well, easy to eat and delicious. It sells at the roadside station. 2nd place : Kurofune Yaki by Roro Kurofune. Taste is obviously good. Package and naming reminds me of the town of Opening Port. So I often buy it. 1st place : Photo frame you make in 'Sea Craft' experience. With beautiful pamphlet of Shimoda and Seamon Play Book. You can talk about your trip with these souvenirs, and recommend Shimoda to others !
Seamon is in front of the entrance hall, 2F of the Roadside Station.
You can craft photo frames, magnets or barrettes.
Craft with seashells, sea grasses, beads.
