Profile

I was struck by the beautiful nature of Shimoda when I made a stop here on my trip around Japan with the motor bike, nearly 20 years ago. Now, every year, I teach more than 1,000 of local children, children of tourist groups, or those on educational tours, what the Geopark is, as the chief of Izu Geo School. The activity varies from experiments, lectures, exploring seashore and snorkeling, to make kids get familiar with the ocean and mountains. As the Geo Guide of Izu Peninsular, I recommend Geo tours to Cape Tsumeki, Ebisu Island and Ryugu Cave. Born in Fukuoka, 1970.

Comment

Izu Peninsular is a famed Geo Park participating the UNESCO Global Geopark. However, when you look at where clean waves lap against the white beach, there are so many tiny discarded matters. It is said plastic, the typical marine debris, takes 400~600 years to dissolve. At this very moment, we should decide not to throw waste into the sea, to show the same beautiful ocean to the children of the future. I started Izu Geo School to inspire many children to think about protecting the beautiful nature, allowing opportunities to get in touch with plentiful attractions of sea and mountains, and to reflect upon how Izu Peninsular was formed. The slogan is"Let's give the children of 1,000 years to come a beautiful earth."

My recommendations

The most favorite place in Shimoda
Mt. Shimoda Fuji. Shimoda's landmark, a sacred mountain, the sister of Mt. Fuji and the remnants of undersea volcanos. April 22nd is the anniversary for Mt. Shimoda Fuji, as in Japanese, 4 = shi = Shimoda, 2= fu = Fu, and 2 = ji (another way) = ji. Let's climb Shimoda Fuji !
Superb view spots of Shimoda recommended by local guides
The town scape of Shimoda, looking down from Yodare Cliff of Mt.Nesugata (mountain like a lying lady). It is a sacred mountain, traditionally called Mt.Buzan ( bushi warrior). You can catch the best view from here, early in the morning, colored with rising sun.
We will show you how you can spend time and enjoy Shimoda
Many unique trains are gathering in and out of Izukyu Shimoda Station. Aloha Train with tropical mood, Kinme (splendid alfonsino ) Train, red train symbolizing our local delicacy. Then Black Ship Train, commemorating the open port history of Shimoda. Popular standard express Odoriko, all-suite luxury train with reserved seats, Saphir Odoriko and also excellent train with reserved seats, Royal Express. SDGs minded Tsunagudensha Train is representing Izu Peninsular Geopark. Visit Shimoda with one of these trains of Izukyu Line, comfortable and friendly to the travelers.
Huge formation of the terrain astonishes us.
Strata of volcanic ashes descended and accumulated upon the ocean floor.
Spectacular sight of columnar joints looked up from 0 sea level.
