Born and grown up in Saitama, but Shimoda was always in my mind as the paradise with beautiful ocean. My dream to go and live in Shimoda, has finally come true. The beautiful sea is the treasure of seashells and weeds. I sometimes collect and display them, and my reverie watching them never ends. My fellow craftsmen seek motives from nature and would like to make use of natural materials. I was so grateful to find an ideal property to produce my own boutique, where people enjoy taking a look at hand made works. That's how I started Ao-no-Oasobi (play with blue).Comment
I discussed with my grandson who lives in Saitama what should be the title of the shop. Among nice ideas he thought of, Ao-no-Oasobi (play with blue) most impressed me. The signboard hung outside with beautiful blue, the fish and creatures swimming in it, everything he produced for me. There are art pieces of ceramic, glass, wood print and resin art fully displayed inside, for the fun of leisurely guests, who happen to enter and ask me about routes. I feel delighted to watch friendly encounter between guests and craft artists who make a brief visit, in a friendly manner. I'm willing to enhance workshops, which guest can participate in a relaxed manner. My recommendations
- You cannot miss these local specialties once you are in Shimoda

We are a gallery with café. And for Ao-no-Oasobi, another signboard is ”Tokoroten (#) Café." While you eat tokoroten, the fragrance of seaside gently come up to the nostril. What is special is we only serve tokoroten made at "Nishirin Shoten, tokoroten manufacturer," just across the street. Theirs are delicate and resilient, with an exquisite texture. We offer it as traditional soya-vinegar taste or Kansai style with kinako and black sugar syrup. There are a lot of local fans as well. (#) jelly made from weed

In November, the view of Cape Tsumekizaki before sun rise is so chilly. But big cargo ship passing in the distance and the beams from the lighthouse almost reaching Izu Islands, make perfect harmony with lit stars all over the darkness, which I witnessed, the other day, among people practicing beach yoga. Such a fantastic moment for whom, love Shimoda sea the most. From December to January, we celebrate blooming daffodils in crowds, letting sweet scent overwhelming the region with its back facing the indigo sea.
