Established its foundation as maritime transportation company, we mainly shipped Izuishi tuff to Edo, with a big Sengokubune ship. Many years later, as one of the leading families, we founded Tokai Bus and Tokyowan Kisen (passenger ship) companies, and made efforts to vitalize homeland industry and attracted banks. One of the families of my great-grandfather's age was a mayor and then a member of the Parliament. Here I was, born and raised far from Shimoda, but regularly visited Saichu in the summer vacation, after spending a few days in another old house in Ito to watch the firework. For me, Saichu was an impressive house of Grandmother, accompanied with the memory of midsummer Drum Festival, where I strolled after portable shrine on the busy streets.Comment
Ascending the ancestral line further, we are known to have been a prevailing maritime kindred in Kishu District, called Saika Shu. The head of the family followed the same first name "Chukichi," which eventually lead to "Saichu," our well known family name. I, myself, is continuing my freelance IT business, while engaged in NPO to afford aged people and children opportunities to listen to live music. Recently I lost my father and all of a sudden, duly appointed the role to settle the inheritance and manage family affairs. I naturally reflected upon family history, especially its root and cultural value. My recommendations
- The most favorite place in Shimoda
-
"Well ordered streets of Shimoda" Shimoda was the most prosperous town in the Peninsular, with the refugee port. In the early Edo era, town planning was undertaken to found the supplying base for the products from nearby Nawaji Silver Mining. Even devastating damage by the huge tsunami in Ansei period, late Edo, turned to be opportunities to ameliorate the townscape, with shogunate's zeal to reconstruct Shimoda to be comparable with western cities in beauty and disaster prevention. The air of history, culture is felt, as well as contemporary in the town. Attractive shops are found, here and there.
- We will show you how you can spend time and enjoy Shimoda.

"Visit us at Saichu, in Shimoda !" "What should I do to make Saichu more contributing ? What best can I do ?" First, I opened a fare with the works of fellow craftsmen and also arranged workshops. I invited a beer brewery and a roasted coffee shop, as well, which made guests spend comfortable time. Taking pictures dressed in Japanese kimono, or feeling the touch of Japan with Geisha performances like Shimoda Bushi sounds quite harmonizing with the house.
- Our specialties!

"Old pond in an inner garden" Saichu is a merchant house combining the residence and the shop seamlessly. Buildings and the warehouse are connected with corridors, and the inner garden with trees as if removed from the wilderness, are blown with refreshing wind. Pure natural water from the well is pouring constantly to the pond with fair depth, reflecting the passing of time.
