At the age of 28, I moved to Shimoda, where I often came to surf. Before, I had been working as an instructor at a members-only sports club in Tokyo. I got incline to think about work-life balance and finally decided to come to Shimoda, where most beautiful beaches are close by. Surfing is my passion, but after many years' career in my occupation concerning health and training, I feel obliged to support the well-being of everybody, especially children.Comment
In Shikine Park, the swimming pool (with heated water), the ground, tennis courts and walking paths are located in harmony in the greenery, to create the field aimed at promoting health and relaxation. The building of the swimming pool looks like the innermost sanctum of the entire park, if you approach from afar. Ample visor like structures extended outward protect swimmers from eyes of passersby, while wide windows of the pool let in plentiful natural light. Surrounded by the nature, visitors can spend luxurious time, while exercising in the pool.My recommendations

If you are lucky, you can enjoy our eminent swimming pool almost alone. Based on my experience at sports clubs in Tokyo, being able to swim leisurely by yourself in such a clean, spacious pool lane feels like a dream come true.

Shikune Park attracts a wide variety of people, from top athletes to friends and couples who make walking a daily habit. The path around the grounds is 600m in circumference and 800m out, and you can often see people walking there to warm up or cool down before or after swimming or exercise.
- You cannot miss these local specialties once you are in Shimoda

Que sera sera. After burning off the calories, get your sugar fix with some delicious sweets. This popular cake shop is located in a detached house on the way from Shikine Park to Shimoda Station. Popular items include the Gateau Harris, made with "Kaikoku Black Tea," a local tea with tea leaves grown in the area, and Honey "Macaron," which taste just like honey from Takahashi Beekeeping, a local farm.
